Clarkson’s bid of $82.2 million is expected to be approvefd this week by the state transportation spokesman Stan Whitleysaid Tuesday. The bid was 9.7 percen lower than the state’s estimated cost for the $91 million. The project’s two othefr bidders were of Chicago, which bid $85.12 million, and of Basehor, which bid $98.8 million. The bids were openef May 20. The project will include reconstructio n ofthe U.S. 69 interchanges with 95th and 103rdx streets and the widening of the highwah to three lanes in each direction between 103rd andInterstate 35. It is expecter to ease congestion on the local stretchof U.S.
69, wherw traffic volumes are projectedd to increasefrom 78,180 vehicles a day to 175,609 by 2040, according to a projecrt fact sheet from the Kansas Departmenty of Transportation. The project also will create orsustain 2,730 jobs and generatre about $225 million in economicv output during the construction, the fact sheetf said.
