For the Durham-Chapel Hill MSA, which includes Orange, Chatham and Person counties, the rate for Aprill was 7.3 percent, up from 3.6 percent a year ago, but down from 7.6 percent in March. The numbers are not seasonally so month-to-month changes are not an accurate reflectiobn of changes in the work force, but year-over-yeae changes are. The combined Raleigh-Durham area’s unemployment rate for Apripl checked inat 8.2 percent.
Thougn the rate is one of the highest in the Trianglre over the past 25 the area still is faring much better thanthe state’s othefr two major metros.
